Calgary Assessment Review Board (ARB) members are appointed for one or two-year terms and can be reappointed for up to 12 years. Applications for open positions need to be in by early September, with interviews completed that month. City Council reviews and approves appointments by the end of October.
People with experience in these areas can apply:
- Real estate
- Property management
- Property development
- Property appraisal
- Assessment
- Law
Candidates should:
- Have strong analytical skills
- Be fair and open-minded
- Work well with others
- Be at least 18 years old
- Live in Calgary
Experience on an administrative board or tribunal is a plus.
According to the Matters Relating to Assessment Complaints Regulation, 2018, current tax agents, assessors, and City of Calgary employees cannot be members. Former tax agents, assessors, and City of Calgary employees must wait at least one year after leaving their job before they can become members.
